Gene Patton died last week. You may know him better as Gene Gene The Dancing Machine. He was a staple on "The Gong Show" back in the '70s. He actually started working on the show as an NBC stage hand, but "Gong Show" host Chuck Barris happened to catch him dancing behind the scenes one day, and decided to put him on the air. During any given episode, Chuck would just stop everything, announce him, and Gene would come onstage and dance to the jazz tune "Jumpin' at the Woodside" . . . often while people backstage threw things at him. He was 82. He died from complications due to diabetes.
